BCPSA 2018 Student Essay & Weller Prize Competitions

Call for Nominations

Essay Prizes
Up to six prizes are awarded each year in the following five categories:

– Mike Meade Prize –  best first and second year essay.
Norman Ruff Prize – best essay third and fourth year essay.
Honours Thesis Prize – best honours thesis.
MA Essay Prize – best MA graduate course essay.
PhD Essay Prize – best PhD graduate course essay.

Beginning in 2018, Two Mike Meade prizes can be given each year.

Eligibility
Open to all students enrolled in BC colleges and universities. To be eligible for consideration, papers must be submitted in courses offered in the Intersession and Summer 2017, Fall 17 and Spring 2018 terms, and may cover any sub-field of political science.

Nomination and Submission
Departments are responsible for nominating papers. Each Department can nominate two papers for the Mike Meade Prize and no more than one paper for each of the four upper and graduate level prizes.
The Winners will be announced at the 2018 BCPSA Annual General Meeting at Thompson Rivers University, May 3, 2018.

2018 Weller Prize
The Weller Prize recognizes the best political science book by a BC author published in the preceding two years. Named after the late Geoffrey Weller, the distinguished BC scholar, the Weller Prize is awarded by an adjudication committee consisting of past presidents and former prize winners. Consideration does not include edited works. Books published in 2016 and 2017 will be considered for the 2018 Weller Prize.

Nomination and Submissions
Nominations are made by department chairs (or their equivalent). Please send nominations to Alex Netherton alex.netherton@viu.ca before Friday, April 20, 2018.
